How many treatments will I need?
Depending on if you’re wanting fading/lightening, or a full removal, it can be hard to determine how many treatments are needed.
For lightening 1 - 3 is standard. For a full removal it can be anywhere between 2- 6 treatments needed. Everyone’s skin is different, and depending on how old the tattoo is, and what type of ink was used will effect outcomes.
Why choose Saline removal?
Saline tattoo removal and laser tattoo removal are two distinct methods for removing unwanted tattoos, each with its own advantages and considerations:
Process: Saline tattoo removal involves tattooing a specialized saline solution into the skin to lift pigment particles out of the dermis. Over time, the pigment forms a scab that eventually falls off, carrying some tattoo ink with it. Application of Saline Solution: A high-concentration saline solution, typically made with sterile water and sodium chloride (salt), is tattooed into the skin using a tattoo machine or handheld device. The saline solution is inserted into the dermal layer where the tattoo ink resides.
Here’s how saline tattoo removal works with Osmosis:
Application of Saline Solution: A high-concentration saline solution, typically made with sterile water and sodium chloride (salt), is tattooed into the skin using a tattoo machine or handheld device.
The saline solution is inserted into the dermal layer where the tattoo ink resides.
Osmosis Effect: Osmosis is the movement of water molecules across a semi-permeable membrane from an area of low solute concentration (in this case, the saline solution) to an area of high solute concentration (inside the skin cells and around tattoo ink particles).
The high concentration of saline solution creates a hypertonic environment compared to the inside of the skin cells.
Why Saline removal over laser tattoo removal?
Advantages vs. Laser:
Gentle on Skin: Saline removal is considered gentler on the skin compared to lasers, making it suitable for sensitive areas and all skin types. Non-Laser, this method does not involve heat or light, reducing the risk of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
Less Painful! Many clients report less discomfort during and after saline removal sessions compared to laser treatments
It’s often more cost effective to have saline removal over laser tattoo removal
Saline tattoo removal targets ALL colours, where as laser cannot pick up all colours, shade and undertones. Especially warm, red, salmon undertones. Laser sometimes misses these. However laser is still great and sometimes saline removal and laser work extremely well together. Combining the two for stubborn ink is often used
Laser beaks down the ink and it goes into the bloodstream and is excreted through your material lymphatic/waste system. This can be good for really dark, blue, thick blocks of colour
Saline tattoo removal targets all shades, and it draws the ink and pigment out straight away, rather than pushing it deeper into your skin
Downtime
What will my skin look like post treatment?
Formation of Scabs or crust:
Over the following days and weeks after the saline tattoo removal session, the body's natural healing process begins.
The interaction between the saline solution and the tattoo ink can cause the ink particles to disperse and rise to the surface of the skin.
Eventually, scabs form over the treated area. These scabs may contain fragments of tattoo ink that are gradually shed as the scabs heal and fall off.
The initial downtime, where the treated area may be visibly scabbed or slightly raised, typically lasts around 1 to 2 weeks.
During this time, it's advisable to avoid exposing the area to excessive moisture, sunlight, or friction (such as rubbing from clothing).
We do treatment 4-6 weeks apart. 6 weeks the older and thinner the clients skin is.
Multiple Sessions for Desired Results:
Saline tattoo removal typically requires multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart to achieve significant fading or removal of the tattoo.
The number of sessions depends on factors such as the size, age, and depth of the tattoo, as well as individual skin characteristics and the type of ink used.
Why Saline Tattoo Removal Might Be Better for you:
Safety Profile for your skin. Saline removal is generally considered safer for all skin types, including darker skin tones that can be more prone to pigmentation changes with laser treatments. Laser can increase pigmentation on darker skin types. Plus older more fragile skin types can be more suited to saline removal also
Less discomfort than laser. Clients often experience less discomfort during saline removal sessions compared to the discomfort associated with laser treatments, which can be more intense
Cheaper, saline removal is often cheaper than laser treatment
No risk of burns: Since saline removal doesn't use heat or light, there's a reduced risk of burns, or other adverse effects that can occasionally occur with lasers
Choosing between them:
The choice between saline and laser tattoo removal often depends on factors such as the tattoo's size, color complexity, location on the body, and individual skin sensitivity. Consulting with us at Belle Amour Studio can help determine which method is best suited to achieve your desired results effectively and safely.
Saline tattoo removal, while generally considered safe and suitable for many individuals, does have some contraindications.
Who cannot have treatment?
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Active Skin infections. If the skin in the area of the tattoo is currently infected or inflamed, it is important to wait until the infection has cleared before undergoing saline tattoo removal.
Skin Conditions: Certain skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis, can make the skin more sensitive and prone to irritation or complications from the tattoo removal process.
Hypersensitivity or Allergy to Saline
Recent Sunburn or Tanning
Immunocompromised Individuals. People with compromised immune systems may have difficulty healing properly after tattoo removal procedures, and therefore should consult with a healthcare professional before proceeding
Keloid-prone Skin: Individuals who are prone to keloid formation (raised scars beyond the boundaries of the original wound) may have an increased risk of developing keloids after tattoo removal procedures, including saline removal
Recent Use of Accutane: Accutane (isotretinoin)
Recent Cosmetic Procedures: (e.g. chemical peels, botox, fillers, facial surgery)
Is there pain involved?
Slightly yes, you will feel some stinging sensation as we tattoo in the LI-FT solution and we apply this for 10 minutes at the end. Some people describe it as stinging, we do however use numbing and take breaks throughout.
Before undergoing saline tattoo removal, it's crucial to consult with us, so we can assess your individual situation, discuss any potential contraindications, and provide personalized advice based on your medical history and skin condition. This helps ensure the procedure is both safe and effective for you.
